Each week we take a look at a marquee matchup in the dynasty league managed by the IDPDynasty.com writers. We use Matchup of the Week to highlight key players and provide sit/start advice
Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving weekend as I am back this week for the Matchup of Week 13. Week 12 had some great matchups starting with Saved By Le’Bell’s. He was back to his winning ways with the high score of the week led by Russell Wilson (34 points) and Tyrann Matthieu (34.8 points) out dueling Team Santigate 258.5 to 199.5. Also, led by Luke Kuechly (32.3 points) Renegades of Punt squeaked out a 228-226 win over Team Mascia for his 6th straight victory to tie him atop the West division at 8-4. Take it Breezy and Calvin Johnson (31 points) beat Can You Digglet? as well to take sole possession of 2nd place in the East division and Brandon Marshall (29.5 points) led Hostile Combover in his victory to tie Digglet for 3rd. Here’s how we stand with two weeks left before playoffs.
1. Saved By Le’Bell 10-2 W2
2. Take It Breezy 7-5 W2
3. Can You Digglet? 6-6 L3
4. Hostile Combover 6-6 W1
5. Team Santigate 4-8 L2
1. Team Mascia 8-4 L1
2. Renegades of Punt 8-4 W6
3. Team He Hate Me 5-7 L1
4. Team Woodman 3-9 L2
5. Team jones 3-9 W1
With four teams making the championship bracket there is one spot left to get with only two weeks left to play. Team Santigate and He Hate Me were eliminated with his losses last week as well as Woodman and Jones weeks ago. This week Can You Digglet? and Hostile Combover face off this week making it an easy Matchup of Week 13.
After three straight losses Can You Digglet? is now on the outside looking in at the playoffs and have to have to get healthy real quick as Devonta Freeman and Charcandrick West are trying to make comebacks. Johnathan Cyrpien and Martavis Bryant are both listed as questionable in addition to losing Jimmy Graham last week for the season. To get this huge win, Digglet will need a giant game from Lavonte David. David is facing the run heavy Falcons this week who have given up over 20 points to at least one linebacker since Week 8 and are giving up the most FPPG to linebackers this season. David has also been huge at home averaging over 11 tackles his last three games, at 20 FPPG in those contests. Start David with confidence even after his disappointing Week 11 where he had his second single digit (4 solo, 7 total) tackle total on the season. He could be the #1 overall LB this week, especially with the looming suspension of teammate Kwon Alexander for PED’s (claimed it was an energy drink he has used since High School via PFT).
Can You Digglet?’s Blake Bortles needs to be on your bench this week. After being the first QB since 2004 to throw two illegal passes in a game I don’t think he will bounce back this week. Jacksonville has trusted Bortles a lot this year, letting him air it out 40 times a game but the Titans and a good game plan held him to only 30 attempts. With one of his favorite Red-Zone targets, Allen Hurns, recovering from a concussion, the Jaguars are looking to get TJ Yeldon more involved this week. Bortles has thrown an interception in every game since Week 4 averaging 1.7 turnovers per game in those contests, including one in that matchup against the Titans. He actually has the most interceptions this year by any quarterback not named Peyton Manning. He had his worst fantasy performance of the year with only 9 points in that matchup against Tennessee so don’t have him in your lineup for the second time around.
Even though Hostile Combover’s Mike Evans has been a target monster, do not start him this week. Evans was targeted 9 times in his first matchup against Atlanta for just 3 catches and 48 yards. He was locked up by Desmond Trufant who is currently is the 11th best CB with a grade of 85 by Pro Football Focus. His Falcons have not allowed a 100 yard receiver since DeAndre Hopkins in Week four (it took 22 targets) and only three TDs all year. In his last five game Evans has caught only 48% of his targets and was held under 65 yards in the last two. Its no coincidence that Vincent Jackson was back those last two games and in the third Evans will fail to reach 100 again so leave him on your bench.
Stephone Anthony has been a beast this year and he is a must start this week for Hostile Combover. With their dominant rushing attack, the Panthers have given up the 3rd most FPPG to linebackers this year including 31 to Rolando McClain last week! Averaging over 9 tackles per game in his last four Anthony has come alive for the Saints in his rookie season. He is now the leading tackler for New Orleans and will be relied heavily upon to stop Jonathan Stewart and Cam Newton. Make sure he is in your lineup as he is guaranteed to have lots of tackle opportunities this week.
Overall this matchup is a great one with both at 6-6 and the teams are so close in season totals. They are separated by only 65 points scored and 77 points against. Can You Digglet? is on a three game skid but I think he has the more talented team and will pull this one off. With 11 starters in the top 10 at their position including stud #1 and #2 RBs Devonta Freeman and Adrian Peterson Digglet will dig his way to a victory this week.
