Each week we take a look at a marquee matchup in the dynasty league managed by the IDPDynasty.com writers. We use Matchup of the Week to highlight key players and provide sit/start advice
Finally the time has come, it is the last game of the regular season and everything is on the line (for some teams). Week 13 turned in some interesting matchups as Sean Lee (26.8 points) led a Monday Night Football comeback for Saved By Le’Bell pushing him past the Renegades of Punt (245.8-237.5) who’s 66 points between Ben Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown just weren’t enough. Also Team Santigate, led by Allen Robinson (38 points) had a mini upset, beating Take It Breezy 226.5 to 210.5 who was led by ageless wonder D’Qwell Jackson (28.3 points). With this loss Take It Breezy is on the outside looking in and needs a win to have a chance at the playoffs this week. On the other hand, Can You Digglet? had a huge win over Hostile Combover (245.5 to 217.8). Blake Bortles (32 points) sure showed me wrong in route to a 5 TD day. Hostile Combover had great performances from Stephone Anthony (29.5 points) and Telvin Smith (28.8 points), but it just wasn’t enough. Here’s how the standings look in our last week:
1. Saved By Le’Bell 11-2 W3
2. Can You Digglet? 7-6 W1
3. Take It Breezy 7-6 L1
4. Hostile Combover 6-7 L1
5. Team Santigate 5-8 W1
1. Team Mascia 9-4 W1
2. Renegades of Punt 8-5 L1
3. Team He Hate Me 6-7 W1
4. Team Woodman 3-10 L3
5. Team jones 3-10 L1
There are multiple scenarios that can unfold here in the final week. Can You Digglet? and Take It Breezy obviously need to win this week to have a chance. If both teams win and Renegades of Punt lose he could potentially be out. The tie breaker is total points for and that is even very close with Can You Digglet? at 2715.8, Take It Breezy with 2676 and Renegades of Punt totaling 2665.5. Take It Breezy has a cake matchup against Team Jones so you would assume he would pull that one off. We couldn’t have scheduled a better matchup though, with Can You Digglet? going up against Renegades of Punt.
Danny Woodhead has been a PPR beast this year for Renegades of Punt. Through Week 9 he was one of the top overall scoring backs but after the Week 10 bye, he has fell apart. Totaling only 11 fantasy points the past three games, Woodhead has gone from a must start to a must sit. Even with the decimated WR corps for San Diego, Woodhead has failed to capitalize and now has to deal with Kansas City and their top 5 rush defense. The Cheifs’ have given up only 340 total receiving yards and two TDs to running backs this year and only elite pass catching backs Matt Forte and Theo Riddick have over five catches against them. In addition, no back has over 41 receiving yards against them and Woodhead will not be the first. Leave him on the bench as he is sure to finish outside the top 20 running backs this week.
If you have Woodhead and have no viable option on your roster to replace him, grab Shaun Draughn. Already on his sixth team since 2011, Draughn has found another temporary home with the 49ers and he is definitely taking advantage of his situation. Averaging almost 20 touches (5.5 catches) per game in their last four games he has clearly been the 49ers lead back. With those touches he has averaged over 86 yards per game and has one touchdown. Draughn has the pleasure of going against the horrid Cleveland rush defense who is still giving up a league leading 128.6 yards per game on the ground to go with over 4 catches for 45 yards per game. Add in the fact that Cleveland was one of the teams to give up on Draughn, you get a recipe for a huge game. Even though Cleveland hasn’t given up a 100 yard rusher since Week 8 (Jeremy Hill came close with 98 last week) Draughn has relatively no competition for touches so he’s sure to be huge in this revenge game. If he is somehow still available, grab him right now (Renegades of Punt just did) and insert him right into your lineup to help you push your team to the playoffs.
Muhammad Wilkerson has been a beast this year and is once again a must start this week for Can You Digglet?. After being benched for the first quarter last week for being late to a meeting, Wilkerson still finished with his fourth sack in as many games and has another great matchup this week. Wilkerson is facing Marcus Mariota’s Titans who are giving up the 5th most points to DE’s this year and have given up six sacks to them the last three games. Wilkerson has failed to get the quarterback in only four games this year and is one of the few players to have a positive grade from Pro Football Focus in every game this year. Make sure he is in your lineup this week as he is sure to have another huge game.
Doing his best DeAndre Levy impersonation, Stephen Tulloch has been huge for the Lions and Can You Digglet?. A year after tearing his ACL, Tulloch is now leading the Lions in tackles and started the season with eight straight games with at least five tackles. The past four games have been a different story though as he has only one game with at least five. This week will be another one of those games as he is facing the St. Louis Rams who are giving up the least points to linebackers this year. As Tulloch only has one sack and one pass defended on the season he is heavily dependent on his tackles for fantasy points. St. Louis has been struggling to get the ground game going and Todd Gurley has only 18 carries the past two games limiting the tackling opportunities for defenses. Teams have stayed away from the run against Detroit and there has only been five backs to get over 15 carries against them and have given up 100 yards only twice (Adrian Peterson and Chris Johnson). As history has shown, St. Louis just wont give enough tackle opportunities to linebackers this week so Leave Tulloch on your bench as that’s how he gets all his points.
Overall, I don’t think I can add any more dramatics to this extremely important matchup. Can You Digglet? needs a huge win to make the playoffs and I think he will do it. Renegades of Punt will lose his second leading scorer as Kwon Alexander’s suspension will start this week. Lavonte David will reap the benefits with more tackle opportunities and Can You Digglet? is his proud owner. Blake Bortles also has a great matchup this week for Digglet and for a second week in a row will push him to victory.
