Each week we take a look at a marquee matchup in the dynasty league managed by the IDPDynasty.com writers. We use Matchup of the Week to highlight key players and provide sit/start advice
It has been an exciting regular season with lots of ups and downs coming down to meaningful games in the final week of the season. Last week’s Matchup of the Week turned out to be a great one and Can You Digglet? pulled off the huge win over Renegades of Punt 274.3 to 241. Take It Breezy also pulled off the win as expected 186.3 to 153.5 over Team jones, but with such a low score he actually was left out of the playoffs. With the score of 241 Renegades of Punt, even with the loss, ended up with 2906.5 total points to Take It Breezy’s 2859.3 to back into the playoffs. He is the only team with a loss in the final week to make it in, but his 241 points would have beat any other team last week so its not that big of a deal. Here’s the final regular season standings:
1. Saved By Le’Bell 12-2 W4
2. Can You Digglet? 8-6 W2
3. Take It Breezy 8-6 W1
4. Hostile Combover 6-8 L2
5. Team Santigate 5-9 L1
1. Team Mascia 10-4 W2
2. Renegades of Punt 8-6 L2
3. Team He Hate Me 6-8 L1
4. Team Woodman 4-10 W1
5. Team jones 3-11 L2
Records are now 0-0. Everyone is now equals and its on for fantasy greatness so here we go. I am changing it up a bit this week and I’m going to highlight both matchups because how can you just pick just one? So we got #1 Saved By Le’Bell vs #4 Renegades of Punt and #2 Team Mascia vs #3 Can You Digglet?.
Saved By Le’Bell has been hit hard again with injuries with Jonathan Stewart nursing a sprained foot and has already been declared out for this weeks game. Regular starters Greg Olsen, Danny Amendola, Everson Griffen and J.J. Watt are all listed as questionable for Le’Bell as well. He will need all of those guys active to have a chance to win this week.
One guy for Saved By Le’Bell that is a must start this week is Sean Lee. Lee has a terrible fantasy matchup going against the Jets who are giving up the 2nd fewest fantasy points to Linebackers this season, but do not sit him! I will preach this all day in the playoffs, START YOUR STUDS! Sean Lee has been great all year, missing only one game with a concussion after sitting out all of last season with an ACL tear. Lee has 11 or more tackles in each of his last three games to go along with a sack and a pass defense. He also had 11 tackles and an interception last time he faced the Jets. Even when it looks like a bad matchup on paper you have to stick with your studs and make sure you have Lee in your lineup this week.
Renegades of Punt has some tough RB matchups this week. He has limped along at the position all year and is currently starting Duke Johnson Jr. and Shaun Draughn. Duke Johnson Jr. is coming off career highs in carries (13) and yards (78) and added in a six yard catch but don’t let that fool you. San Francisco is horrid against the run and also allowed Cleveland to ride Isiah Crowell for 21 touches, 154 yards and 2 TDs. Duke Johnson Jr. will not be a good start this week against the top ranked Seattle rush defense who haven’t given up a 100 yard rusher all year.
After declaring him a must start last week, Shaun Draughn is now a must sit. Draughn disappointed last week getting a measly 11 carries for 43 yards and 2 catches for 8 yards. Modest production in a great matchup does not bode well as he gets to face the 11th ranked Bengals defense who have only given up four TDs on the ground all year. DeAngelo Williams did get two of those TDs last week but it took him 23 carries to get 76 yards and the two TDs were one yarders so don’t read too much into it. The 49ers will have a tough time keeping this game close and San Francisco will have to abandon the run again next week so stay away from Draughn and don’t let him burn you in your playoff matchup.
Overall, Saved By Le’Bell and Renegades of Punt have some great matchups. The best two to watch would be Russell Wilson (4th ranked QB) vs Cam Newton (2nd) and DeAndre Hopkins (5th) vs Antonio Brown (2nd). Le’Bell overpowers him at RB with LeSean McCoy (9) and Latavius Murray (11) but Renegades of Punt has counters at with top LBs Luke Keuchly (10), Thomas Davis (9) and Malcolm Smith (4). Le’Bell’s secondary will be the difference though led by Tyrraun Mathieu (1), Corey Graham (2) and Malcolm Jenkins (2) and pull off the round one victory.
The matchup of Team Mascia vs Can You Digglet? is even closer than Le’Bells and Renegades. Separated by only 19 points on the season they are the closest in the league. They both ride two game win streaks into the playoffs and both scored over 230 points in both those games. Couldn’t ask for a better matchup for the first round.
The matchup for Team Mascia’s Ryan Tannehill is not so great though. He gets to face the tough San Diego pass defense on the road this week and is trending backwards as a fantasy QB. After throwing multiple TDs Weeks 10-12 he only threw one in Weeks 12 and 13 combining for only 322 passing yards in those two games. After being scoured by the media for not feeding Lamar Miller last week the Dolphins will not make the same mistake twice. He did gain 89 yards on only 12 carries. It’s like Miami wanted to lose that game. It will be the Miller show this week so leave Tannehill on your bench as San Diego has only given up 357 yards in the air the past two weeks and are the 6th worse defense against the run.
For Can You Digglet? Martavis Bryant is a must sit. Bryant has been up and down all year and this will definitely be a down week. Denver has only given up an average of 106.4 yards per game to receivers this year and only 143 the last three weeks combined! They are first by far giving up only 9.5 points to WRs per game compared to the second best Falcons at 14.8. The only WR from Pittsburgh I am starting this week is Antonio Brown because you gotta start your studs but Bryant has not met the stud status yet so leave him on your bench.
To reiterate this is a great overall matchup. Can You Digglet? powers over all with Adrian Peterson (1st ranked RB) and Devonta Freeman (2). Team Mascia does have Todd Gurley (7) though. Mascia leads at DT with Aaron Donald (1) but Digglet has Kawaan Short (2). Digglet also has Muhammad Wilkerson (2) but Mascia counters with Ziggy Ansah (3). Digglet also is strong at CB with Ronald Darby (3) but Mascia counters with Marcus Peters (4). Mascia has Rob Gronkowski (1) back at full strength this week too and is sure to score a ton of points. It’s tough to predict a winner in this matchup but I’m gonna have to go with Team Mascia because I said I would never pick against him again as I continually was wrong picking against him earlier in the season.
Good luck to all you guys as its been a great regular season, see you in the finals.
